At the age of 28, Lionel Scaloni found himself struggling for game time with Deportivo La Coruña. Because the world cup was fast approaching in 2006, he forced his way to West Ham United on loan. That transfer move did not please Joaquín Caparrós, the then Deportivo La Coruña manager.
