When the going gets Tough – The Injury Story:
Timothy Castagne had a problematic and unfortunate start to his professional career. Around mid-April 2015, he collided with a Waasland-Beveren player during a competitive match in the Jupiler Pro League.
After the collision, Timothy got diagnosed with a mild concussion which he first felt wasn’t much of an issue.
However, a few months later (around December 2015), that same injury came back to haunt him. That old injury got triggered after an opponent fouled him in a match.
Timothy got substituted at the 37th minute in that match – with Genk medical staff rushing to his injury rescue. Sadly, that injury kept young Castagne out of action for close to a year.
Even after he recovered, Castagne continued to suffer from headaches and vision problems. At this point, the medical staff of Racing Genk decided to take additional medical tests to determine the exact cause.
Until these results are known, the medics advised Timothy to have more rest.
The Belgian continue to train but avoided making duels and competition situations. Those were the most challenging moment in his career.

Following a return from injury, the Belgian continued to leave a good impression with Genk first team. Rising as the most versatile footballer in the Belgian Pro League attracted many top clubs around Europe.
In July 2017, Timothy joined Serie A club Atalanta in a €6 million deal. The rising Belgian star adapted so well in his first season – even getting a more significant improvement in the second.
After spending three years at Atalanta, Castagne felt he was ready to take up a bigger challenge. So his Dad – Pierre Castagne, swung into action in a bid to get the best deal for his son.
The Transfer Battle:
Initially, Jose Mourinho’s Spurs became the favourite to sign the versatile Defender. The Portugues as we know him devised all means to get him.
Research has it that Mourinho even conducted a video conference with Timothy Castagne’s father.
In that conversation, Pierre Castagne observed that Tottenham Hotspurs’ finances could not afford his son’s services. At this point, Jose Mourinho considered the idea of selling Serge Aurier to meet up Timothy’s price.
It is pertinent to note that Timothy Castagne at the time began to get other suitors. Chiefly among them was Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.
However, the Foxes edged out, which made Spurs focus on pressuring Wolves’ Nuno EspÃrito Santo, who gave Spurs Matt Doherty.
Leicester City signed Belgium full-back from Atalanta for €24m. With medicals completed in Italy, Leicester fastly did everything so rival clubs don’t steal their target.
With that transfer, Timothy Castagne broke a record as the most expensive Belgian Defender ever.
He became a direct replacement for Ben Chilwell, who joined London powerhouse – Chelsea in a £50m deal. Tim also provided competition for James Justin and Ricardo Perierra at Leicester Right back.
However, the fact remains – Timothy Castagne, and NOT Vincent Kompany or Jan Vertonghen is the most expensive Belgian defender ever. Here is a video justifying why Leicester wanted him.
The versatile Belgian Full-back announced his name in English football by scoring his first Leicester goal, which came just two weeks after completing his move.
Leicester City Rise:
Timothy Castagne didn’t only displace Ricardo Pereira as the preferred choice for Brendan’s right-back. Instead, he joined Wesley Fofana and Cengiz Ünder, who helped Leicester achieve greatness – in the 2020/2021 season.
Speaking of greatness, the Versatile Belgian, alongside a brother – Youri Teleimans, helped Leicester win their first FA Cup title in 2021.
It is important to note that the Foxes have failed five times in the FA Cup competition finals. Thankfully, Timo helped them seal this one (for the 2020/2021 season) after defeating Chelsea.
