Yes, you and I appreciate his versatility and those warrior-like tendencies he brings to the game. No wonder, the Spanish Media powerhouse (Marca) views him as a future centre-back for Real Madrid.

Despite the accolades, we notice that only a few are acquainted with Eder Militao’s Bio. For this reason, and for the love of football, Lifebogger has gone ahead to create his Memoir. Now, without further ado, let us begin.

Eder Militao Childhood Story:

For Biography starters, he bears the full names Éder Gabriel Militão. The Footballer was born on the 18th day of January 1998 to his mother, Ana Maria Militão and father, Valdo Militão in Sertãozinho, Brazil.

The Rugged Brazilian defender came to the world as the second son among three children (himself, a brother and a sister).

Their birth came thanks to the marital union between his parents (pictured below) who appear to be in their 50s. Who does Eder take after in terms of facial appearance?

Early Life and Growing-Up Years:

The Centre-back enjoyed a joyful childhood in Sertãozinho, a Brazilian municipality in the state of São Paulo.

Éder Militão grew up alongside his older brother, who goes by the name Militao Junior. Some years later, his parents gave birth to his little sister, Maria Júlia, AKA Maju. Behold the nuclear family unit.

Eder Militao grew up as an extremely shy kid. He was typically self-reliant, very thoughtful, and an empathetic child. Eder only loosens himself at home with his family and on the street when he is with friends.

Unlike his elder brother, Militao Junior, he was the type who didn’t like trying new things. All Eder Militao did (day and night) was riding his bicycle and flying kites.

After school time and on weekends, he formed the habit of going to the streets of Sertãozinho to throw his kite into space. Because of that, everyone in his neighbourhood gave him the nickname – Kite Boy.

Kite flying has given Éder Militão the best childhood memory.

One particular thing Eder enjoyed was seeing his kite rising so high in the sky without knowledge of what direction the wind was going to blow.

More so, he knew not how many twists and turns would come before the flight is over. While doing that, little did Eder know it was a sign of his football strength and glory to come.

Eder Militao Family Background:

Truth be told, the Brazilian’s success is a makeup of the activities of his lineage. Put simply, Eder Militao comes from a family that has football flowing through their veins.

Did you know?… Before Eder Militao’s parents had him, his Dad (Valdo Militão) played for Corinthians – alongside Legendary Rivaldo.

Pictured below, he was among the team that won the two titles. First is the Paulista, and second is the Copa do Brasil, both in 1995.

Featuring at the top flight of Brazilian football implies the fact that Valdo Militão would have probably earned much money from his career. That should have sustained his family.

For this reason, Lifebogger is of the view that Eder isn’t from a poor family background. He was born and raised in a comfortable home – all thanks to his Dad.

Eder Militao Family Origin and Ethnicity:

First thing first, the Brazilian has his roots from Pontal, a municipality in the state of São Paulo in Brazil. From an ethnicity point of view, he is an Afro-Brazilian.

This small town (Pontal) is his Dad’s birthplace. It is also where his Eder Militao’s grandparents come from. The footballer describes himself as a Sertãozinho native because he was born there.

As observed from the map, both towns are separated by an 18.5km or a 21-minute drive. Eder is the most notable celebrity from Sertãozinho, a town famous for its ethanol and sugarcane production.

Eder Militao Education:

Not having their boys go to school or become professional footballers would have them stand the risk of doing blue-collar jobs in one of Sertãozinho’s industrial plants.

This wasn’t the plan Eder Militao’s parents had envisaged for their sons. They wanted both Eder and Junior to pass through the necessary schooling – which they did.

Ana Maria and Valdo Militão – respected the Brazilian educational policy, which says that it is mandatory for Brazilian children to go to school from age 6 to 14.

For this as well as footballing reasons, Eder and Junior (his brother) did go through the primary and secondary stages of their education.

Eder Militao Football Story – The Untold Biography:

The reserved boy, from a humble family background, was only committed and focused on three things. First is his school, second is flying kite, and third is riding his bicycle.

The truth is, Eder wasn’t interested in football. He wasn’t even a big fan of it talk less of living up to his father’s legacy. Only his three extracurricular activities matter.

Despite growing up in a football-centric home, Eder had zero interest in the idea of following in his Dad (Valdo Militão’s) footsteps.

Like many ex-footballing Dad (who has an unwilling son), it was hard for Valdo to deal with retirement – talk less of having a child who is not interested in continuing the family legacy.

The truth is, Eder Militão never wanted a football career. In fact, he didn’t even trust that he could live up to what his Dad had done in the game.

Valdo Militão’s Decision:

After sitting him down to preach about the need to keep alive the family legacy, Eder finally agreed to give a try to take up a football career.

According to Maisfutebol (a Porto-based newspaper), Valdo Militão began a good plan. He first set up a one-on-one training with his son, who at this time began to feel his destiny of following Daddy’s footsteps.

As time went on, things began to naturally connect. Eder began to have this peace of mind and inner belief – a feat that made Valdo (his Dad) initialize his next decision. Contrary to the Wikipedia writeup, the footballer didn’t start his youth career at Sao Paulo Academy.

Eder’s first taste of academy soccer was with one of Sertãozinho’s local teams. His Dad decided to project him to the next career steps after celebrating his son’s Golden Shoe win in a local tournament.

In case you didn’t know, Eder started out as a goal scorer. This is why he won the Golden Shoe honour.

The Camisa 10 Project:

At the age of 12, Valdo (after consulting and collecting advice from a friend named Agnello Souza) took his son for enrolment in a big football school.

Camisa 10 is a regular football project that has more than 300 children (mostly boys at school) juggling out to make a name for themselves.

The opportunity wouldn’t have come without Agnello Souza, the man who helped Valdo in his son’s early career.

Agnello Souza, a friend of Valdo Militao, became Éder’s first serious trainer. He managed him alongside many of his teammates throughout their adolescent years with Camisa 10.

Eder was part of the Camisa 10 Project while still going to school – as an average student. However, in football, he stood out quickly – from his teammates.

Our boy, Eder, was so good that he was told to play with boys two years his senior. The Brazilian was 13 years old when he played with and against 15-year-old boys.

Early on, Eder was known to shoot hard. That made him score lots of goals. In fact, Eder left a big goal margin between him and other scorers.

That quality made him stand out from his peers. It was a sign that the Brazilian was already bigger than the team and needed to climb up the ladder (move to a bigger academy).

Sao Paulo Trials and Acceptance:

At the age of 14, Eder and his Dad prepared for the longest journey of his life. It was a whopping 338km drive (4 hours 5 minutes by car) from the Militao family home in Sertaozinho to Morumbi district – where Sao Paulo FC is located.

The essence of the journey was to make his son have trials with Sao Paulo’s academy. Eder underwent three successful test – which he passed with flying colours.

Still, at age 14 years of age, the youngster signed his first youth contract with Brazilian football giant – Sao Paulo FC.

Eder Militao Biography – The Road to Fame Story:

The versatility of the Sertaozinho native did not take long to get noticed at his new club. Eder’s coach discovered he could play in every football position – midfield, attack and defence.

As seasons passed, youth coaches kept rotating him through these positions. That early on didn’t go down well with the versatile boy.

Eder was a little confused about his coaches’ decision to move him around. In fact, it took the efforts of his Dad to calm him down. According to Valdo,

Eder was a little confused, but I reassured him to Calm down and stay tuned. That his coaches were not punishing him.

The Junior National Team Call:

The year 2015 became a blessing for Eder Militao’s family. Their son witnessed a junior national team call. In recognition of his versatile efforts, Eder got a call to join Brazil’s under-17 team.

This time, as a defensive midfielder, he represented the country at the 2015 Youth World Cup in Chile. Eder’s Brazil got eliminated in the quarter-finals by Kelechi Nwakali’s Nigeria team, who went on to become champions.

Sao Paulo Continuous Achievements – Imitating his Father Role:

At last, a final football position was agreed for Eder. His coach at Sao Paulo (Dorival Júnior) found him to be more suited as a defender – just like his Dad.

With that, Eder Militao maintained his defensive position – which he had kept to date. He continued to develop at the club – helping his academy team in winning notable trophies – one of them is observed below.

Senior Football and the Ultimate Friendship:

Éder Militão represented São Paulo Academy until the age of 18 – the time he signed his professional contract. Before graduation, he met his look-alike Luizão – who became his best friend.

You can hardly differentiate between the two boys. In fact, Eder and Luizao looked so similar that people often confuse them as blood brothers. Check it out for yourself.

Eder and Luizão are like twin brothers. They played as both defenders and midfielders for Sao Paulo academy.
Eder and Luizão are like twin brothers. They played as both defenders and midfielders for Sao Paulo Academy.

Among every one of his teammates, Luizão was one of the lucky academy stars who got an early European call to FC Porto.

After signing a pro contract with Sao Paulo, the Portuguese club quickly took Eder Militao’s twin brother to play for their reserve team – not FC Porto’s senior squad.

Eder Militao was very eager to move with Luizão – as FC Porto was also interested in taking him along. That didn’t go through due to family reasons.

His Dad, Valdo, convinced his son to be patient and stay a bit with Sao Paulo senior team. More importantly, gather local experience and then go abroad for a senior team and not as a reserve player.

Eder Militao Bio – The Rise to Fame Success Story:

Luizão did more to convince his best friend to join FC Porto. After the end of the season, he would visit Brazil to spend his vacation with his family, including Eder. As they meet, both would converse about European life.

Eder Militao finally made his decision to accept FC Porto after playing forty-nine games and scoring five goals with Sao Paulo. Regarding the transfer experience, his Dad said in an interview,

He went on his own accord. When FC Porto became interested, I spoke with the club several times.

I always said the same thing to Eder … Come on, I will allow you only if you want to go. And he replied; I want to go, father. I want Portugal.

Are you aware?… FC Porto was so eager and couldn’t even wait until January 2019, when Eder’s contract with São Paulo ends. The Portuguese giant hurriedly signed him after paying four million euros to São Paulo in advance.

To help the 20-year-old adapt to Europe, Éder Militao’s mother, father and seven-year-old sister all packed their bags to Portugal to live with him.

The Big Rise:

While in FC Porto, Militão quickly cemented himself in the team’s starting eleven as a centre-back. Forming a defensive partnership with teammate Felipe, the powerful defender rose up to all occasions.

In a short time, Eder Militao became one of the best defenders in the whole of Europe.

In September 2018, barely two months after joining FC Porto, Eder Militão (to the joy of his family) got the call of destiny. This time, by coach Tite, to be part of the Brazilian national team.

In May 2019, Eder Militão got included in Tite‘s 23-man squad for the 2019 Copa América tournament. His exceptional performance in the final match (after coming on for Philippe Coutinho) did help his country grab the long-awaited Copa America trophy.

Truly, it was a great sense of feeling and pride to have members of his immediate family having a feel of the prestigious CONMEBOL America Cup (Copa America title).

For Eder himself, this was a big boost to his footballing CV. The smile of the last born of the family (Maria Júlia, AKA Maju) is just priceless.

The Real Madrid Call:

Witnessing the ageing of their veteran defenders – the likes of Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Nacho Fernandez became a source of worry for Los Blancos.

In response, the Spanish giant decided to put their hope on Éder Militão. The video below shows why Real Madrid signed the Brazilian warrior. It highlights Militao’s glory days with the Dragons.

The day 14th of March 2019 finally came. Real Madrid announced that they had signed Militão.

It was a whooping €50 million six-year deal. The transfer came after Real Madrid fought off big names – the likes of PSG and Bayern Munich.

Los Blancos president Florentino Pérez, welcomed Eder Militao’s Family with so much love and respect. Once again, Maria Júlia (his sister) stole the occasion.

She is pictured here wrapping herself around the loving arms of the Spanish businessman.

Eder Militao, who arrived at the same time as Eden Hazard never disappointed Real Madrid. He was quick to make an impression with the club.

At the time of writing the Warrior’s Bio, he has helped the Spanish giant to win the La Liga and Supercopa de Espana – all in his first season. More trophies for Militão is to come.

Thankfully, the boy who knew only how to fly kites, not having the idea of living his family dreams (following in his Dad’s footsteps) is now Sertãozinho’s most notable person.

Without a doubt, Eder Militao is one among few defenders (like; Gabriel Magalhães) who is set to take over from Thiago Silva and David Luiz – as far as Brazil’s central defence is concerned. The rest, as we say of the Warrior’s Biography, is history.
