He came into this world through his beloved parents, who go by the name; Mr and Mrs Marcos Alonso Peña.

Just like Juan Mata and Alvaro Morata, Marcos is a son of Madrid. For little Marcos, giving football a start was easy. He started playing football right from the moment he began crawling.

Marcos Alonso Family Background:

Another advantage is that Marcos also comes from a football-playing family with his dad and granddad, both having played professional football at a high level. This paved the way for him to take football seriously from an early age.

In his early years, he started playing for Alcobendas, which is a small team (feeder club for Real Madrid) in the region where Marcos grew up.

His parents valued his son’s education very highly, and that is why he selected Alcobendas as his first youth side due to its proximity to the family home.

Marcos Alonso was a boyhood Atletico fan, and we have no doubt he took a love for Atletico because his father Marcos Alonso Peña played for the club when Marcos was still a kid.

Early Life in Football:

Atletico Madrid once offered him a place at their academy, all thanks to his dad’s influence. Granting his son a permanent spot in their academy was also a means of paying his dad for his service with the club.

However, there was an issue. Their training ground was too far from his home. His father did not want his education to be disrupted by the extra travel associated with playing for the Atletico youth team.

Because of that, Alonso changed affiliations and joined the academy at Real Madrid, which is more local to his family home. There, he started a more purposeful career.

At Real Madrid’s youth academy, Marcos progressed through every year to represent the side at every youth level.

While at Real Madrid, the youngster played as a winger, much to the frustration of his father and grandfather. We will tell you why they were frustrated.

Without a doubt, Madrid was not a club known for regarding youth development as a top priority. The club was never likely to be the place for a teenage Alonso to be given the time to mature.

After waiting for ages, Manuel Pellegrini offered him his first appearance in the Real Madrid senior team in 2010.

Unfortunately, he was introduced in the 89th minute against Racing Santander. Sadly, that has been the only minute he has been on the pitch in Real’s colours.

Knowing that he required more opportunities to prove himself, Alonso took the bold decision to leave the Bernabeu for ordinary Bolton after playing just 1 minute with the Madrid youth team.

This made Italian giants Fiorentina snap him up. They gave him out on loan to Sunderland before he returned again to Fiorentina, who used him as a midfielder.

Marcos joined Chelsea on 31st August 2016, the transfer deadline day after Antonio Conte promised to pick him up following his impressive displays at the Italy Serie A.

It was Chelsea who did gain more of the Real Madrid academy product in Alonso. The rest, as they say, is history.
