Antoine Griezmann Childhood Biography – Start to Football:

Having a grandfather who was a footballer made him interested in the game. However, Antoine’s last interest came when he watched the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry during the 1998 World Cup.

This inspired him at a tender age to fully get into football and, subsequently, his dream to repeat what Zidane and Henry did with the French shirt.

Griezmann, who was a Lyon supporter as a kid, has always had football abilities. Being born 70 kilometres from Lyon in Mâcon meant opportunities for his young career.

He once travelled to have trials at boyhood club Lyon as a youngster but was considered too frail to join their academy and rejected.

Griezmann travelled back to his hometown and began his career playing for his hometown club UF Mâcon. He was accepted there because of his dad’s political influence.

While there, he embarked again on several trials with other professional clubs in order to earn a spot in one of their youth academies.

Again, he was rejected because the clubs questioned his size and lightweight frame. Antoine Griezmann was, at that time, very small-statured for his age.

As observed here, Antoine had a cute outlook as a kid footballer. This was because he was a rich kid who was well-kept by his parents.

Finally, a breakthrough came for the young lad. In 2005, while on trial with Montpellier, Griezmann played in a friendly match against the youth academy of Paris Saint-Germain in Paris and impressed several club scouts.

Spanish club’s scout for Real Sociedad attended the event. They got more interested in him, unlike other Scouts.

Following the match where he won a trophy, the club’s officials offered Griezmann a one-week trial in San Sebastián trial ground, which he accepted.

Thanks to his repeated success, Antoine was later offered a second-week stay at the club. When they said he would become a star, the club then contacted his parents and formally offered Antoine a youth contract.

Griezmann’s parents were initially reluctant to have their son move to Spain at first. After many pleas, they allowed him to make a move. This came after positive reassurances.

When he first arrived at Real Sociedad, Griezmann lodged in the home of the same club’s French scout who picked him up in France.

He had the money to secure his home but was too young to live alone. Antoine even attended school across the border in Bayonne. He trained more in the evenings at the club’s headquarters.

It didn’t take long before Antoine observed he had developed from a small-statured boy to a built teen.

However, It took him time to break into Real Sociedad’s first team. This came after four years in the club’s youth system.

Antoine Griezmann Biography Facts – The Breakthrough:

He passed the medical examination the same day and signed a six-year contract on 29 July 2014. He was the La Liga Player of the Month for January 2015 despite appearing in only three of Atlético’s five matches.

That same 2015, he was selected as the only ATM player and one of three forwards in the Team of the Year at the LFP award alongside C. Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Since then, his rise to dominance has been extraordinary. The rest, as they say, is history.
