It is worth mentioning that Mr Pierre François Aubameyang, also known as “Yaya”, was one of Africa’s best defenders during his time, which spanned from 1982 to 2002.

He was instrumental to the Gabonese international team in the 1994 and 1996 African Cup of Nations and played for a number of top teams in France. Auba’s dream has always been to raise sons who will continue the Aubameyang legacy.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s mother, Mrs Margarita Crespo Aubameyang, on the other hand, has always been supportive of her husband’s decisions to have his son stick to his side of history. She is a French woman of Spanish origin.

Away from football, ‘Auba’, is being dubbed as a complete family man who loves to spend time with his girlfriend Alysha and son, Curtys, whom he dedicates his Spiderman and batman celebrations to.

According to Auba,

“Love is a beautiful thing in all its forms but, perhaps, the most enigmatic and often mysterious variant of love is the feel of Alysha and Curtys”

His eldest brother Catilina is also a Gabon international, who made a handful of appearances in the mid-2000s, while Willy is an international too but currently plays in the German lower league.

For instance, there was a time St Etienne wanted to sell Auba to Newcastle. His dad refused and made his son agree to the Dortmund transfer.

According to Auba, “we became finalists in the Champions League because my father studied Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund game, even though the money was lower.”

Pace is the obvious thing you would associate with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It is his greatest strength. He’s exceptionally quick in short-and-long bursts and can also carry the ball well at the same time.

Auba has been clocked at 30 meters in 3.7 seconds. This was said to be faster than the World Olympic 100 metre champion and world record holder- Usain Bolt.

Although he has been challenged to a 100-meter race by German sprinter Julian Reus but has not yet accepted the challenge.

In 2007, he was drafted into the AC Milan academy by his dad, the year the Italian giants became European champions. He never actually played a game for the Rossoneri and failed to establish himself as a first-team player.

Instead, he was drafted out on loan to French clubs such as Dijon, Lille and Monaco.

In 2011, he was signed on a permanent deal by Saint Etienne, where he scored 31 goals and was named the Ligue 1 African Player of the year for 2012.

He had a career-changing encounter with Saint-Etienne coach Christophe Galtier. According to the French coach,

“Though not everything went smoothly for Auba at first.

I only saw one thing in him. That’s his speed. I saw during training that he was the fastest footballer I’ve ever gotten.,” 

At the age of 20, Pierre played for the French U-21 team after earlier being called to the Italian U-19 side.

He moved to Germany’s Borussia Dortmund in 2013 and has emerged one of the top strikers in the Bundesliga. Auba joined BVB in a reported €13 million deal.

Although Pierre was born in France and played for Gabon as the captain in a bid to continue the Aubameyang football lineage, which his elder brother Catalina had done. He is delighted and honoured, knowing his children seek to emulate them.

Making History:

Aubameyang is the first Gabonese player to play in the Bundesliga or any other German league.

He made his debut on August 10, 2013, after joining Dortmund in July of that same year. He had a dream debut by scoring a hat trick in his first game, which was played against FC Augsburg.

Also in the history books, In July 2012, Aubameyang went to London to represent Gabon at the Olympic Games.

In the first match against Switzerland, he scored the only goal of the game, which would end up being the only goal Gabon would score in the competition.

This was Gabon’s first, and only ever goal scored at the Olympics. Having scored 19 goals, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Gabon’s highest goal scorer of all time.

In December 2012, he wore boots encrusted with over 4,000 Swarovski crystals and a design that included his name, number and his clubs crest and colours while warming up for a match against Olympique Lyonnais.

The fine was rumoured to be around €50,000. It was later confirmed that the mask was dedicated to the Nike Hypervenom Phantom “Strike Night” boots he was wearing.

Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke told Kicker magazine: ‘It can’t be that Nike was trying to push economic interests in this way.’

Aubameyang is a self-confessed fan of Hernan Crespo and names him as his biggest role model in the game.

According to Auba, “Crespo is dynamic, strong in the air, technically gifted and giant of a player,” he told kicker. Auba spends most of his post-training sessions watching Crespo’s poaching skills.
