Baby Michael James Owen was born on the 14th day of December 1979 in Chester, United Kingdom.

Sagittarius born Owen is the fourth child of his parents. He was born to Jeanette Owen (mother)  and Terry Owen (father). He lived nearly all his childhood growing up life in Hawarden, Wales.

Owen was introduced to football at the age of seven by his father who saw him as the most promising athlete in the family. As a boyhood Everton fan, Owen attended Rector Drew Primary School in Hawarden, Flintshire, north Wales. By the age of ten, some of the nation’s leading scouts were monitoring his progress.

Owen was the most popular player for the Deeside Area Primary School’s Under-11 team. This was a time he smashed Ian Rush’s 20-year record for the same team by scoring a record-breaking 97 goals in a single season, improving on Rush’s record by 25 goals. He was awarded for his childhood achievement.


At age 12, when Owen started attending secondary school. This was a time he became eligible to sign a schoolboy contract with a club. This time, football scouts made the move. The first major club to spot him playing for Deeside was Liverpool.

In fact, it was Steve Heighway, the Liverpool youth development officer who wrote to Owen personally. This club’s management had never approached a kid with this much love.

Terry Owen his father stated: “[Heighway] wrote us a smashing letter and it was love at first sight for Michael. The lovely letter of Liverpool interest showed how they had loved Owen from day one.”

However, before Owen gave them his signature, he had to finish his GCSE exams which he also came out the top of his class. Despite the academic success, Owen was adamant his future was a professional football career with Liverpool.

Owen met Louise Bonsall at Rector Drew Primary School, in Hawarden, Clwyd, North Wales. This was in the year 1984 when Owen was 5 years old. Both became friends and grew up to be teenage sweethearts and then, adult lovers.

Louise Bonsall is often referred to as the WAG who would prefer a horse to a handbag. She is a professional horse rider. Back then, while Michael was a brilliant young footballer, attracting the attention of Premiership scouts from the age of ten, Louise was always horse-mad.

Despite marrying one of the country’s most famous footballers many years ago, Louise Owen is not a stereotypical WAG.  You won’t see her falling out of nightclubs, nor does she regard shopping and cosmetic surgery as competitive sports.

Her priorities are her family first and her horses second. She and her husband guard their privacy fiercely – in fact Louise has never before given an interview.

They were engaged on 14 February 2004, and married on 24 June 2005, at the Carden Park Hotel in Chester, Cheshire. The couple had initially planned to get married at their home but changed plans when they were informed that if a licence was granted for a marriage ceremony, the venue must be made available for other weddings for three years.

The couple bought Lower Soughton Manor in Flintshire, North Wales, where he keeps his cars. Louise Bonsall loves horses.

Their daughter, Gemma Rose, was born on 1 May 2003. As observed earlier, Gemma was featured in their wedding photo. Owen dedicated an entire chapter to his daughter Gemma in his autobiography, “Michael Owen: Off the Record, My Autobiography.”

Michael Owen comes from a middle-class happy Welsh family before football investments paid off. Below is a 1998 photo of Owen at home with his family (father, little sister and Andrew his elder brother) in North Wales.

In total, he has two brothers and sisters namely. His siblings are Andrew Owen, Terry Junior, Karen Owen and Lesley Partridge. Owen has always been seen as the most favourite son of his father who himself was a former professional footballer and played for clubs such as Chester City and Everton (an arch-rival to his son’s Liverpool).

After Owen returned to the UK from Real Madrid to play for Newcastle, he travelled to a nearby BAE facility on a daily basis in order to fly, by helicopter, to train with his club. This revealed how rich he was.

A customed helipad was installed within the grounds of Owen’s house and his club to accommodate his lovely helicopter which he both travels with and also used it to train on becoming a pilot.

Owen was eventually banned from training to be a pilot by Newcastle United football management due to excessive insurance premiums.
