In his first season at Anderlecht’s Academy, he scored 26 goals, and in his second, he scored 37. He was at Anderlecht’s academy until the age of 10 before joining Mons, due to his father getting a new job in the city.

At the age of 17, he signed his first permanent contract with Standard Liège.

There, he was known for his heading ability and stamina, which made him one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the Belgian First Division.

His performance resulted in him winning the Ebony Shoe in 2008, an award given to the best player of the season of African descent.

After rejecting the advances of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, Fellaini signed for Everton in September 2008. The rest, as they say, is now history.

Marouane Fellaini comes from a middle-class family background operated by his father, Abdellatif Fellaini. This was before football investments paid off.

His father, Abdellatif, once played in the Moroccan league as a goalkeeper for the clubs; Raja Casablanca and Hassania d’Agadir. 

In 1972, he wanted to change to Europe and signed with the Belgian first division club KRC Mechelenz. However, his Moroccan club refused him the move to Europe.

Instead of returning to Morocco, Abdellatif ended his active career, moved to Europe and became a bus driver for the Brussels public transport.

Today, Abdellatif is proud to have given his sons the opportunity to be born and to grow up in Europe. Abdellatif enjoys a good relationship with his sons.
