He began to play football for his hometown club Post-SV Dortmund in 1994 and joined the youth ranks of Borussia Dortmund in 1996.

Back then, his first apartment was only one way from Borussia Park, which is close to home.

In a bid to get better playing time, young Reus left the club and moved to Rot-Weiß Ahlen where he got regular football.

This happened in the summer of 2006. For a year, he got so confused about choosing his nationality [German, English, Russian].

“It was very painful for me to leave‚,” he told The Guardian in 2013. “When you spend your whole youth career at one club, you want to take the next step – especially when you support that team and then observe the lack of opportunity they give you.” …
