Jerome grew up with his elder half-brother Kevin-Prince Boateng. Along with their elder brother, George, the Boatengs grew up in Berlin.

George and Kevin-Prince came from different mothers and once lived in Wedding, one of the city’s poorer areas, and Jérôme lived with his father and mum in a more affluent area.

Although they lived apart, the three brothers were close and would meet at weekends and during school holidays to play football together.

On the occasion of one such meeting, Jerome and his brother Kevin took a photograph.

Jerome was arguably the least talented footballer in the family growing up, but what he may have lacked in ability, he compensated for with application.

“I grew up in a different area of Berlin to my two brothers, but that made me change my game and become a bit harder”. He once said.

Early Years in Football:

Jerome possessed a steely determination to make his dreams of becoming a professional footballer come true, and his ambitions were not just a passing fancy.

His youth career story is interesting, if not uncommon – that of a determined child who became blessed with extraordinary talent and became more successful than his brothers, who were initially better off.

Jerome, although the same age, was bigger and taller than his youth teammates. As seen in the photo below, Jerome was a fan of FC Barcelona during his childhood days.

After an unsuccessful season in England with Manchester City, he joined Bayern Munich in 2011 and has since won domestic and European honours with the club. The rest, as they say, is now history.
