Little Daniel Sturridge: The boy at everyone’s heart:

Daniel loves Hockley because it was a positive place to live and somewhere that gave him the right grounding for where he is today.

Growing up, Young Daniel had parents who were very protective of him.

In his words; ….” Hockley had some crime, so my mum didn’t want me out there, and my dad was the same. I would have to be in at a certain time as there was a lot of violence surrounding our area.

My elder brother, Leon, wasn’t involved in any violence, and he made sure that I stayed away from that entire lifestyle.

It’s important to understand that you can become something in a crime-ridden area.

I’m grateful to God that I was able to get out of that environment and make something of myself .”

Having come from a football family background, Daniel knew his dad and uncles would want their legacies to continue.

In fact, he had an early mentorship and guardian from them. His dad, Michael, developed this fondness for showing his son videos of Pele. It was this that first got Daniel interested in football.

In Daniel’s own words…“My dad coached me a lot in the park; we’d put out cones, and dogs were always chasing us. He showed me a lot of Pele videos.

He would show me the skills, and I would go in the front garden trying to do them.”
