Four years before Ansu Fati was born, a civil war broke out in his home country. This was followed by a military coup in 2003, a year after he was born.
The coup left his country in ruins and also intensified widespread poverty. Ansu Fati’s parents feared for their children’s future, and this resulted in Bori, his dad, leaving Guinea-Bissau in search of greener pastures abroad.
Bori first immigrated to Portugal, where he had a failed attempt to begin a football career in the lower leagues.
While in Portugal, Bori heard a rumour that a Marinaleda, a Municipality in Spain, was offering work to immigrants. Ansu’s dad quickly left Portugal for Spain to get a job.

After impressing his boss with his humility and hard work, The Major of Marinaleda decided to help Bori bring his wife and children (including Ansu) from Guinea-Bissau to Spain.

While he was still learning the game, his elder brother, Braima, was far ahead. Their family’s sporting success first came from Ansu’s older brother Braima Fati, who passed trials and got signed by Sevilla FC.
