Four years before Ansu Fati was born, a civil war broke out in his home country. This was followed by a military coup in 2003, a year after he was born.

The coup left his country in ruins and also intensified widespread poverty. Ansu Fati’s parents feared for their children’s future, and this resulted in Bori, his dad, leaving Guinea-Bissau in search of greener pastures abroad.

Bori first immigrated to Portugal, where he had a failed attempt to begin a football career in the lower leagues.

While in Portugal, Bori heard a rumour that a Marinaleda, a Municipality in Spain, was offering work to immigrants. Ansu’s dad quickly left Portugal for Spain to get a job.

Unfortunately, luck ran out of him in Spain as Bori began begging for food on the streets of Marinaleda.

It took just a few months before an opportunity came as Bori Fati met mayor Marinaleda in Seville, who offered him a job as his driver.

“I was at Sevilla when Real Madrid came, offering me better conditions than Barcelona.

Both club came to my family’s house to convince my parents.

This development got Sevilla mad as they wanted me to stay, having helped my brother”

Due to transfer complications of losing their star kid, Sevilla left Ansu without playing football for a year. This didn’t create any delay to deter his dreams of becoming a pro.

In reaction, FC Barca Academy- Le Masia had to act to get the clubless kid. They took a nine-year-old, Ansu Fati, and gave him the needed foundation to kick-start his career. While at La Masia (Barcelona’s academy), young Ansu had Abel Ruiz as his roommate.

Ansu Fati was just 16 years and 298 days old at the time he got his first senior minutes under his belt.
